VideoAFL: David King believes Eagles pair Nic Naitanui and Tim Kelly are creating a new weapon in the AFL, grabbing the ball out of the ruck and surging forward.

Injury-hit West Coast have suffered a massive body blow ahead of tomorrow night’s clash against Collingwood with Liam Ryan forced out of the team due to injury and doubts hanging over his return date.

And Jack Petruccelle has also been ruled out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury, just days after kicking four goals against St Kilda.

Ryan has played 53 consecutive games and kicked at least one goal from each of his past 10 matches.

But a shin injury poses major concerns.

“Liam complained of shin soreness at training and scans have revealed a bone stress injury in the shin area,” West Coast general manager of football Craig Vozzo said.

“We will further explore this injury in the coming days with our medical and strength and conditioning staff to determine his likely return date.”

The Eagles already couldn’t consider Shannon Hurn (calf), and with Luke Shuey and Elliot Yeo recovering from injuries, they will be undermanned against Collingwood.

West Coast also dropped Jamaine Jones and Isiah Winder but named them as emergencies.

Alex Witherden will play his first game for the Eagles after crossing from Brisbane, he’ll be joined by Greater Western Sydney recruit Zac Langdon while Nathan Vardy and Xavier O’Neill were also selected.

Vardy and O’Neill travelled to Victoria with the Eagles last week but didn’t play. Their trip also denied them the opportunity to play in the WAFL but it hasn’t stopped them from being selected to face Collingwood in the Friday night blockbuster.

The Magpies left Mason Cox out of the team despite his dominant performance during last season’s elimination final win over West Coast.

He was joined by Brayden Sier, Will Hoskin-Elliott and injured midfielder Taylor Adams as changes to the team that lost to GWS.

Darcy Cameron, Finlay Macrae and Mark Keane came into the team.
