Strike Energy gets Federal environmental approval for West Erregulla project in the Perth Basin

The Federal Government has given ASX-listed Strike Energy permission to push forward with plans to extract gas from the Perth Basin. The West Australian understands Strike has obtained approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, meaning it has now jumped over all environmental regulatory hurdles to develop the West Erregulla onshore gas field. West Erregulla — situated approximately 350km north of Perth near Dongara — was granted WA environmental approval in July. Development plans include a gas processing facility, with a nominal design flow capacity of 87 terajoules per day, and a 16.5 km interconnecting buried gas pipeline. Up to 90 hectares of vegetation will need to be cleared to turn this proposal into reality. West Erregulla is a 50/50 joint venture with Warrego Energy, but is operated by Strike. Strike’s shares have been whacked so far this year after well testing at the nearby South Erregulla-3 effectively came up dry back in February. Chief executive Stuart Nicholls said at the time the “disappointing” well flow test had not matched interpretation of petrophysical data. Shares in Strike were flat on Friday at 20¢ each.
