Queensland Police has posted a brutal video attacking a 0.6 per cent pay rise offered to New Zealand cops while trying to poach members of their force.
The cheeky video, which appeared on the official Queensland Police Instagram page, featured a New Zealand officer with a big grin while he donned a Queensland police uniform.
He was then handed a flat white and whole pavlova as he strutted through the building while welcomed by other members of the force.
Crowded House’s Don’t Dream It’s Over played in the background while text on the video read: “Hey New Zealand Police ... We know you’re working your jandals off! You deserve better. 1.3% is hardly enough for a flat white. Don’t dream it’s over, Queensland will look after you.”
Queensland Police wrote that “with NZ police facing a disappointing pay rise, we think it’s time they consider moving across the ditch”.
It added that “after all, QLD has a long standing tradition of embracing the best of NZ and proudly calling them our own”.
The controversial 0.6 per cent pay rise outraged New Zealand police officers and has been heavily criticised by members of the force across the ditch.
This follows Queensland Police’s recruitment drive, a national and international search for new officers.
The force swore in 45 new, experienced officers from countries including the UK, NZ, South Africa and Brazil.
Constable Dan-Emil Meszaros joined the Queensland Police Force after serving at the Wellington Central Police Station in New Zealand
“I have a lot of transferable skills, especially in public order policing (or QPS’s Public Safety Response Team). With the Olympics coming to Queensland, these skills will become very valuable,” Constable Meszaros said.
He grew tired of the cold, wet, and windy weather in Wellington and chose to move to Queensland for the lifestyle, beaches, and the relaxing nature of the communities.
“My advice to future recruits is to be patient with the process and explore everything Queensland has to offer on your weekends,” he said.
Social media reactions were overwhelmingly supportive in the comment section of the cheeky post, with one response by user Maddi labelling the jab at New Zealand as the “best move ever”.
Another, Gustavo, commented “Cop poaching on Instagram is next level”.
