Isla Fisher reportedly consulted divorce lawyer Fiona Shackleton in 2022 ahead of split from Sacha Baron Cohen

Perth-raised actor Isla Fisher is believed to have sought the expertise of a celebrity lawyer two years ago before her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen.

It has been reported that the 48-year-old former Methodist Ladies’ College student told friends she was consulting celeb divorce lawyer Fiona Shackleton — who charges more than $1000 an hour — according to The Sun.

Baroness Shackleton was also the legal expert who helped Sir Paul McCartney in his expensive split from Heather Mills.

The top lawyer, who also negotiated the then Prince Charles’ divorce from Princess Diana, reportedly suggested the couple go down an “amicable route”.

A source told the publication: “Isla has known for some time the marriage was over, and after some difficult conversations with Sacha, made the decision to consult a divorce lawyer.”

“This was back in early summer, 2022.

“Fiona Shackleton was recommended by mutual contacts, and Isla was put in touch with an associate at the office.

“It was also suggested she seek out a lawyer in the US, where the couple have a home.”

Sources also believed the pair, who have three children, could fight over The Borat actor’s wealthy fortune.

“Fiona is an incredible lawyer, and utterly fearsome in both reputation and ability,” insiders said.

“It was suggested they keep things as amicably as possible for the sake of the children.

“However, with Fiona on board, no stone will be left unturned if things did turn nasty — which neither of them want.”

It’s also understood Baron Cohen has consulted with Laura Wasser, who represented Johnny Depp in his split from Amber Heard and worked on Angelina Jolie’s divorce from Brad Pitt.

The lawyer revelations come as the pair announced at the weekend their 14 years of marriage had jointly ended.

“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down. In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage,” a statement on Fisher’s Instagram said.

“We have always prioritised our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”

The news comes after a public and messy fight between Aussie actress Rebel Wilson and Baron Cohen, following the revelation that a chapter in her newly released memoir Rebel Rising was about the 52-year-old star.

Wilson teased last month that one of the chapters in her book was about a high-profile actor, who she claimed was an “a..hole” and was trying to stop the release of her book.
