Home and Away: Budget McDreamy takes a swipe at Lewis, Mac loses the baby and Dean is still a crumb of a human

There’s a lot to process between the punch up, Jasmine stuck in the middle of her boyfriend and dead Robbo’s daughter’s mother and Mac getting rushed to hospital. But the true travesty in the gargantuan mega episode is the amount of air time Dean is afforded to force his opinion about his sister’s unborn child – a matter that has nothing to do with him - onto everyone. Mac is completely overwhelmed making the biggest decision of her life– whether to keep baby or not– and while Ziggy supports her friend no matter what, on the other hand, Dean her brother, is still managing to make it about his feelings of guilt over keeping the baby a secret from Ari – who is the father of Mac’s child but left her for a newcomer Mia who he was in a relationship with a decade ago. “I’ve never been so paralysed by a decision before,” Mac says to Ziggy. But the moment of clarity for Mac happens at a most peculiar time when Ziggy is entertaining herself with a bit of song and dance while she thinks she’s alone. “I’ve been waiting for a sign from the universe and I think I just saw it,” Mac says. Consolation, it’s not Ziggy’s dancing and singing. Why that detail was written into the script will remain a mystery. Although Ziggy has been known to burst into cringe-worthy song on occasion. Like that romantic getaway with Dean last year when she got that very regrettable tattoo. It’s reiterated for the millionth time that Mac nor anyone will be telling Ari and the appointment is booked for tomorrow. “It’s like an elephant just took its foot off my back,” Mac says. I was not aware that was a saying. Then Mac stops by the beach to speak to Dean. I have no patience left for Dean and I don’t know why Mac even bothered because he hasn’t changed his stance and wants to tell Ari. “I’m not asking for your advice,” Mac says to Dean. Then it becomes apparent that their chat is so Mac can get a lift home. Although, surely Ziggy would have been thrilled to play taxi. The words coming out of Dean’s mouth agree to the driving but the entirety of his body says otherwise. His eyes are darting around a lot which can only mean he’s going to do something drastic like tell Ari because he feels it’s his right as the father of a son he didn’t know he had to tell Ari he could be a father. Dean soon changes his tune. “I don’t know if I can do it,” Dean says to Mac. He says “I totally respect your decision” then he immediately contradicts himself. “The baby’s father needs to know what’s going on and unless you can take that step I can’t be a part of this,” Dean says. Mac is distraught. The evening continues in this manner for some time. That is until Ziggy gives her ex Dean a stern yelling on the jetty. “How can you be so judgemental of your sister,” Ziggy says. “Because I’ve walked in Ari’s shoes,” Dean replies. Ziggy storms off with another fabulously cutting line while Deano shakes his head in disbelief. Throughout this whole shemozzle former bad boy Tane not only reaffirms he’s very charming, he’s actually a good bloke. Although he’s broke AF since his only work since he came to town many moons ago was hiding a van of drugs Justin’s garage. By the end of the day – and it’s a really long day in Home and Away land – Dane agrees to take Mac to her appointment. But Lucky for Dean, he’s about to get off the hook. It’s dark and Mac is in the kitchen when she suddenly screams and falls to the floor clutching her womb. Meanwhile Ziggy and Tane return at dawn – filled with way too much energy to be believable - from their raging night out at the clubs. Time can often appear ambiguous in this show and one would assume because it’s suddenly light, Mac has been lying on the floor writhing in pain all night. But the script suggests otherwise and I’ll pass it off as a continuity issue. Mac breaths heavily and inches towards the home phone. Yes that’s correct. A landline. She calls Dean and then passes out, presumably for the excruciating pain or blood loss. Dean bashes in the door with ease – and in thongs – and discovers his sister on the floor. Mac is rushed to hospital. The very hospital that Ari is a patient in so we know things are going to get verrry messy. Tori admits Mac for emergency surgery, but the baby doesn’t make it. As Mac gets wheeled to her recovery room, Mia catches a glimpse of her. Ziggy and Tane try to cover-up why she’s at the hospital but Mia wants to tell Ari about Mac. And then Tane blurts it out. “Mac was pregnant,” Tane says with emphasis on the “was”. Ari has just asked Mia to move in with him so her usually stern face was lit up with joy. But the happy glow is wiped from her face as she thinks of her own miscarriage experience. Then Mia – the woman Ari left Mac for – has the audacity to offer her support to Mac. “If you ever need to talk I’m here,” Mia says. Mac Rolls her eyes and Mia’s generous offer to help. Mia returns to Ari’s hospital room and he knowns something is wrong. While the drama with Mac is going on, Budget McDreamy has yet another review after yet another one of his patients died. He decides to ditch the denim and wears a wool jacket for the occasion. “Let’s just say Doctor Green’s career is hanging by a thread,” Lewis says. “Unless he’s struck off, this will just keep on happening.” Budget McDreamy is not in a good mood after the meeting and treats himself to a double bourbon at Salt. It feels like its morning, but who am I to judge. After he drinks down his morning tipple, he sees Lewis and decides to give him the right hook, knocking him to the ground and walks off as if nothing happened. Tori and Jasmine – who saw the unprovoked incident – rush to help Lewis and he’s actually pleased. “Today Dr Christian Green finally showed his true colours,” Lewis says. In a surprising twist of events Tori tells Lewis he has her support if he wants to file an incident report. “I can’t condone violence no matter who did it,” Tori says. “Dr Green is finished,” Lewis mutters. Jasmine isn’t so keen on it, but Lewis wants her to make a decision. “Jasmine, I’m going to need to you pick a side,” Lewis says. It’s exactly what I said would happen weeks ago. Jas finds herself torn between a new chance at life with Lewis or her old life and Tori who is the mother of Jasmine’s late husband’s baby. But then she probably remembers how desperate she is for a baby and takes Lewis’ side. “If you need to put in an incident report against Christian then I support you 100 per cent,” Jas says. It’s no secret I have qualms about the term “100 per cent”. Despite the certainty about the phrase, it’s pretty much the least genuine thing people on TV say. Over at the diner everyone is still reeling from Susie’s sudden disappearance. No one can get a hold of John but Roo and Alf suggest they “check out” his place which we find out means casually breaking in with a crowbar. It turns out John got really drunk and took a bus to the city to see his son Jett which means Alf is left to clean up the financial mess Susie left behind. “It’s going to take a lot of work to win back the good will,” Alf says It’s going to take a lot more than that because the surf club has a few law suits on their hands.
