Alone Australia

Wednesday, 7.30pm, SBS

If there’s a show about surviving in the wild, you can bet I’ll be watching it.

Bear Grylls biting the head off a trout on Man Vs Wild? Count me in. A bunch of nude people trying not to get bitten on the bits in Naked And Afraid? Sure, why not! Homesteader families in Alaska? I’m all about them, though most give me distinct cult vibes.

Yep, when it comes to watching people try not to die while marooned in the wilderness, you could say I’m something of an aficionado.

But without a doubt, my absolute favourite of all these shows is Alone.

Various international versions of this reality series have been going for years, and last year Australia had a crack at the franchise, filming in Tasmania — the fabulous Gina Chick took out the win, and never a worthier winner was there crowned.

This season is shaping up to be another big one, and though I’m dying to tell you all about it, I’ve been sworn to secrecy.

I will say this though: you’re going to want to tune into the first episode, and not just because this year’s crop of 10 survivalists vying for a chance to outlast one another to win $250K are a fabulous bunch.

Producers have already admitted in those early eps someone is forced to tap out, so you’ll want to be watching from the start to see what plays out.

As you can tell, I’m super excited about this, and I can’t wait to tune in to learn more survival skills . . . that will absolutely in no way benefit me in my everyday life.

Adore this show.

Grey’s Anatomy 20th season

This year marks Grey’s Anatomy’s 20th year on television. Way to make me feel old.

I remember those first seasons like it was yesterday: Meredith swooning over McDreamy, Christina struggling out of her wedding dress, the sweet friendship between Izzie and George — it was all just perfection.

In the 20 years since I’ve dipped back in occasionally to see if television’s longest-running medical drama is still worth watching — it very much is.

I’ll be tuning in to reacquaint myself with the residents of the hospital formally known as Seattle Grace when the latest season goes to air.

Long may it reign.

Couple To Throuple

Wednesday, 9.30pm, Seven

“If you were given the chance at non-monogamy in paradise, what would you do?” asks the host of this polyamorous dating series. And honestly: I’d run a mile. But you can bet I’ll be tuning in to see how this group of “curious couples” fare when a third is introduced into their relationship. MAFS schmafs.

A Gentleman In Moscow

Ewan McGregor and his real-life wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead star in this miniseries, which styles McGregor as an ex-aristocrat under house arrest at a Russian hotel post-revolution. Based on the book by Amor Towles, it’s worth a look.

Steve! (martin) A Documentary In 2 Pieces

Friday, Apple TV Plus

Jerry Seinfeld calls Steve Martin “the most idolised comedian ever” in this doco — and he may be onto something. I’m yet to meet anyone who doesn’t adore the silver-haired funnyman’s unique brand of banjo-playing bonkersness, me included. I’ll be tuning into this, for sure.
