A bold new modern Asian dining experience will soon open beneath The Station in South Perth after it was announced trendy restaurant Ludo will close this month.

Perth hospitality group Nokturnl will open Bangla inside the former Ludo space on Mends Street on June 19 and is inspired by some of the group’s most celebrated restaurants, including Lotus, Tonic + Ginger and Karla.

Leading the restaurant will be Nokturnl’s executive chef, Sundoo Kim, alongside newly appointed head chef Thanapat ‘Teddy’ Rattichot.

Mr Kim, who opened The Beaufort in 2022 and Stories in 2024, said Bangla’s menu will feature bold flavours, share-style dishes and vibrant cocktails.

“Bangla is about capturing a feeling,” he said.

“Some of the best dining experiences across Asia are loud, energetic, flavour-packed and full of life - there’s movement, music, spice, smoke and atmosphere all happening at once.

“The menu will draw inspiration from across Asia rather than one specific region or technique.”

“Over the years, Asian cuisine has become such an important part of our identity and we’ve built an incredible pool of talent around passion.

“This venue brings together everything we love most about dining across Asia - the flavour, colour, energy, movement, late nights. It’s designed to feel alive from the moment you walk in.”

Bookings are now open ahead of the official opening on June 19.

It comes after Ludo will officially shut on June 14, marking the end of an era for the restaurant that has been operating for just two-and-a-half years.

The closure comes as founding head chef Ludo Mulot steps away from his role, prompting the group to reimagine the venue.

Nokturnl group are known for their Asian cuisine, a category the group has not only embraced but helped define.
