A homicide investigation has been launched after a woman’s body was found inside a burning unit.

Emergency services were called to a fire at Osborne Place in Belconnen, in Canberra’s north, about 6.40am on May 18.

Fire and Rescue officers found the body of Kylee McHugh, 46, inside the home.

Detective Acting Inspector Chris Watson said the circumstances of Ms McHugh’s death and the fire are suspicious and are now being treated as a homicide.

“I’m appealing for information from the public, specifically wanting to speak to anyone who has spoken to Kylie in the three days before her death,” he said.

“We’ve spoken to a number of people in the course of our inquiries, but in terms of who and why I can’t comment.”

Police would also like any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area bounded by College St, Haydon Drive, Belconnen Way and Eastern Valley Way recorded between 9pm May 17 and 7am May 18.
