UDIA launched a new website this week, specifically for consumers looking to purchase a home within a sustainable community.

The EnviroDevelopment Living website is a one-stop shop for information and advice about UDIA’s EnviroDevelopment certification program. It explains the system, highlights certified projects and shows buyers what they can expect when purchasing a home within an EnviroDevelopment-certified community.

The website includes an interactive map so you can find an EnviroDevelopment in your area quickly and easily.

EnviroDevelopment is an independent assessment which certifies property developments with outstanding sustainability performance across a range of criteria, including water, energy, community, materials, ecosystems and waste.

People that choose to live in an EnviroDevelopment can expect a home which has been designed and delivered with the natural environment in mind. Not only is this a fantastic initiative for our future environment, there are also many ways buyers will benefit in the long term, including in terms of water and energy savings, as well as strong community connection and vibrancy.

Certified projects must meet strict technical standards which are regularly reviewed by an expert panel that includes ecologists, town planners, engineers, architects, lawyers and economists.

The standards are regularly reviewed to ensure they continue to recognise sustainability achievements that go beyond regulatory requirements and consider new technologies.

Projects which are certified under EnviroDevelopment can be easily identified by the unique leaf icon that is used to represent the projects certification.

Developments that are eligible for EnviroDevelopment certification include new greenfield communities, apartments, seniors living, mixed-use developments and even industrial projects.

There are a range of projects in Western Australia which are certified under EnviroDevelopment such as those that have achieved all six leaves, including Catalina Beach, Shoreline at North Coogee, Bushmead and Alkimos Beach estates.

Here in WA, if a development is certified under the water element of EnviroDevelopment, it is also eligible to be recognised as a Waterwise Development by the Water Corporation.

As more buyers are prioritising sustainability as an important aspect of their decision-making process when choosing the right home for them, UDIA is very proud to deliver an initiative that makes it even easier to choose sustainably.
