Three sunscreens are being urgently recalled over concerns they may not meet their advertised sun protection factor (SPF).

Medik8’s Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ 60mL, 60mL Professional, & 15mL are all being recalled by owner AC Newco, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) said.

The TGA said: “There is a risk that a lower than labelled SPF rating may increase the risk of sunburn during use and reduce the long-term effectiveness of preventing skin cancer.”

The recall comes after the TGA proposed new sunscreen regulations to crackdown on SPF testing by simplifying labels to low, medium, high or very high protection.

Consumers who have bought Medik8’s Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ 60mL and the 60mL Professional sunscreens have been urged to immediately stop using it and return the product to the retailer they bought it from.

Customers who have purchased the Post Treatment Kit should not use the Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ tube included in the kit, but can continue using other products in the kit.
