WA Day celebrations are set to land in Broome for the very first time on Saturday 20 June 2026, transforming Town Beach Reserve into a vibrant coastal festival hub overlooking the turquoise expanse of Roebuck Bay.
The landmark event will see WA Day evolve into a truly statewide celebration, with Broome joining the festivities for the first time as part of Celebrate WA’s ongoing commitment to sharing the spirit of the day across regional Western Australia.
From live music and roaming circus acts to artisan markets, food stalls and family-friendly activities, the free community event promises a full afternoon and evening of entertainment celebrating the unique character of the Kimberley.
A celebration shaped by the Kimberley
Celebrate WA Chairman Scott Jones said bringing WA Day to Broome marks an exciting milestone in expanding the event beyond the metropolitan area.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring the spirit of WA Day to Broome for the very first time and create an event that truly reflects the energy, creativity and cultural richness of the Kimberley,” Mr Jones said.
“One of the highlights will be the stunning Town Beach Reserve location overlooking Roebuck Bay, which provides a spectacular backdrop for a relaxed community celebration. From live music and roving entertainment to free family activities, markets and food experiences, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
He said the decision to bring WA Day to Broome was driven by the region’s strong cultural identity and deep sense of community.
“WA Day is about celebrating all the people, places and communities that make Western Australia unique, and it was important for us to continue expanding the celebrations into more regional areas across the state,” he said.
“Broome was a natural choice because of its strong cultural identity, incredible community spirit and reputation as one of Western Australia’s most iconic regional destinations.”
Local music, global energy, Kimberley storytelling
At the heart of the festival will be a dynamic live music program showcasing both local talent and performers with deep Kimberley connections.
Audiences can expect the unmistakable sounds of the Family Shoveller Band, known for their interactive, multi-generational style that brings audiences together through rhythm, humour and storytelling.
They’ll be joined by the soulful, blues-infused performances of Stellar Moon, alongside the Dark Knights, delivering powerful musical narratives shaped by Country, culture and lived experience in the Kimberley.
Circus, surprises and roaming entertainment
Adding movement, colour and a touch of the unexpected, the festival precinct will be brought to life by roaming performers from Theatre Kimberley’s Sandfly Circus.
The Sandfly Circus performers will weave through the crowd with acrobatics, physical theatre and playful pop-up moments designed to delight audiences of all ages.
Internationally touring Broome-born performers from Yuck Circus—Will and Georgia—will also take to the stage and grounds, blending high-energy stunts, comedy and physical theatre in a performance style that has captivated audiences around the world.
Mr Jones said the entertainment program has been carefully curated to feel immersive, inclusive and distinctly local.
“The event has been designed to feel vibrant, inclusive and family-friendly, culminating in a fireworks display over the Broome skyline,” he said.
Markets, food and family fun by the bay
More than 20 food vendors and trucks will line the precinct, serving up a diverse mix of cuisines and creating a bustling, open-air food experience.
A curated market area will showcase regional makers, artists and small businesses, with stalls featuring handmade goods, jewellery, fashion, art and creative works. The emphasis on local enterprise is designed to highlight the Kimberley’s thriving creative economy.
Families will also find plenty to enjoy, with free carnival rides, interactive entertainment and hands-on workshops running throughout the afternoon. A silent disco will add a playful twist, allowing festivalgoers to dance into the sunset while choosing from multiple music channels through wireless headsets.
A new annual tradition for the Kimberley
The celebration will culminate in a fireworks display lighting up the sky above Roebuck Bay and bringing WA Day’s first-ever Kimberley edition to a spectacular close.
With its blend of live music, circus spectacle, local makers, food experiences and breathtaking coastal scenery, the Broome WA Day Festival is set to become a new highlight on the regional events calendar.
“The Kimberley has an incredibly rich cultural landscape and strong sense of identity, and we wanted the event to feel authentic to the region. By building a community-focused program, we hope audiences feel a genuine sense of pride, connection and celebration throughout the day.”
As Mr Jones put it, “the atmosphere will really celebrate what makes Broome and the Kimberley so special - community connection, diversity, creativity and coming together outdoors.”
