ADCA 2025-26: Collingwood Park finish unbeaten season in style with C-grade flag to claim five-peat title joy

Collingwood Park swept to a five-peat of C-grade flags in the Albany and Districts Cricket Association after a 74-run win over Manypeaks capped an unbeaten season. Saturday’s one-day grand final victory at Centennial Oval was a repeat of their qualifying final win over the same team on March 14 – and it came just as comfortably. Batting first, Park finished their 40 overs on 8-184 having won the toss, while a calamitous response by Peaks saw them all out for 110 in reply. It was hard going for Peaks right from the start as Park openers Graeme Wienert and Craig Tonkin were quick out of the blocks and put on 74 for the first wicket. Tonkin went first, caught by Jayden Wood off Peter Owen for 43 off 48 balls and then Craig Sims was dismissed in identical fashion for a duck. It was once Weinert became Owen’s third victim, caught by Wood for 36 off 60 balls, that Park wickets started tumbling and it wasn’t until Darryl Robinson added an unbeaten 37 that the favourites looked like setting a decent target. Dane Christensen’s 21 helped too, but with Owen claiming 4-17 it looked as though it just might be Peaks’ day. Unfortunately, the Peaks batting fell apart right from the beginning when Mat Thompson ran himself out in bizarre fashion, setting off on a third run when everyone – including the umpire and partner Tim Sippe thought they had settled for two. At least he cost himself his own wicket though it rather set the tone for what was to follow. Chris Liddle, coming in at four, fired 35 to be something of a rescue act, and Kyle Badger added 24 off a stubborn 84 balls to delay the inevitable, but it was to Park’s day in the way that it had been their season. Ian Waugh snared the prized wicket of Peaks’ big hitter George Sippe for seven. Weinert’s economic bowling – he snagged 0-17 off eight overs – plus his 36 runs earned him the player of the final honours. However, the wicket takers were Kim Lester (3-23), Christensen (2-2) and Waugh (2-26) who were just as mean with the ball.
