ANA 2025: Bethel drops out to leave seven teams to contest new A1 season opened by grand final rematch

Albany Netball Association’s A1 competition has been shaken up for its 2025 season with the loss of Bethel 1 leaving only seven teams to contend in the top competition. The season will kick off on Saturday headlined by a 2024 grand final rematch with Bullets 1 attempting to knock off reigning premiers Royals Saints 1 and gain early momentum. Bethel, who secured only one win in the 2024 season in round five against a disqualified Railways side, did not nominate a team this year for the top division. ANA president Trish Hines said the reduced number, which will result in a weekly bye, and changes in team line-ups, have reshaped the competition significantly. “Several younger players have relocated to Perth for study and work, while several key transfers between clubs have altered team line-ups and chemistry,” she said. “The changes are expected to have a significant impact, making it hard to pick a winner in this competition at this stage.” Hines said the youthful Kangas 1 were ones to keep an eye on as well as the unstoppable Royals outfit and an experienced Narrikup 1 team. “Among the teams to watch are Kangas, a youthful side with only three players over the age of 20,” she said. “Despite their age, Kangas are tipped to be tough opponents, boasting energy and pace across the court. “Meanwhile, Royals remain perennial powerhouses, bringing strength and consistency into every season, and Narrikup continue to be solid contenders with depth and experience.” After the grand final rematch at 1pm, Griffins 1 will face Magpies 1 and Railways 1 will go head to head with Kangas with both games at 2.30pm. Hines encouraged people to come to courts for the season’s inaugural match to witness “what could be an early season classic”. “Team dynamics across the division have shifted, and coaches are keen to test new combinations in early rounds,” she said. “With fresh faces and evolving strategies, the 2025 season is shaping up to be both exciting and competitive.” Narrikup will have a round one bye before starting their campaign against Bullets in round two.
