Denmark Council makes a start on aspirational goal of net-zero emissions by 2050

The Shire of Denmark is now pedalling for the planet after buying a new e-bike.

Staff will ride the e-bike reducing their reliance on fossil fuels.

Councillor Jan Lewis said it aligned with more than one of the decisions in the Shire’s Sustainability Strategy 2021-2031, endorsed by council last month.

The strategy aims for a 50 per cent reduction in the Shire’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Cr Lewis said it was a step in the right direction.

“This might seem like a small first step, but leading by example is a key commitment we made when we endorsed our sustainability strategy,” she said.

“Hopefully the people of Denmark will see our staff electing to attend a meeting in town utilising this sustainable transport option and recognise that as a conscious, eco-friendly choice for the long-term benefit of the beautiful natural environment we enjoy here.”
