Denmark’s Pawprint Chocolate and Whitfield Estate awarded at Perth Royal Show

Denmark family-owned chocolate business Pawprint Chocolate and Whitfield Estate have won big at the Perth Royal Show, taking home a slew of awards for their unique flavours and style. Operating since 2010, the family-owned business decided to enter its chocolate creations into the Perth Royal Show this year for the first time. The business took home eight awards, including six gold, one silver, and one bronze. Kelly Howard, who co-owns the business with her husband Graham Howard, said it was a “pleasant” but “absolute surprise” to take out so many awards at the Perth Royal Show. “We were hoping to do well of course, but we really had no idea because they’re fairly new products to us,” she said. “We sent Yael, our chocolatier, to train in Melbourne earlier this year, and she’s come back full of ideas and inspiration, and between us we developed the flavour profiles, and then she puts it all together and they’ve been selling really well. “So we knew we had a good product, we know we only put quality ingredients in so we knew the quality was there, but you never actually know how you’ll go.” Ms Howard she was “very excited” when she found out about the awards, saying she shared multiple text messages back and forth with their chocolatier Angwin, whom she said showed continued dedication and commitment to the chocolate product and business. Ms Howard said they entered the awards to see how their product would stand against competitors. “We knew we had a good product but you don’t really know where you sit with your competitors until you enter these things, and the Perth Royal Show has a really good reputation for the high quality competition and quality judges,” she said. “So if you do well there, you know you’ve got a good product.” Pawprint Chocolate and Whitfield Estate uses Australian ingredients where possible and Belgian Couveture as their chocolate base. “We try to use local as much as possible, and I think this contributes to the quality,” Ms Howard said. “And Denmark has a good reputation for producing quality chocolate, because it does have this nice temperate climate to make chocolate in.” Pawprint Chocolate and Whitfield Estate is located on Hollings Road, Denmark.
