Final competition of the year hosted by King River Pony Club attracts nearly 70 riders

The King River Pony Club hosted nearly 70 riders from Perth and the South West at their final competition of the year under beautiful blue skies at the weekend.

Riders competed in the three phases of a one-day event, dressage, cross country and show jumping on the well-presented grounds at Willyung.

Competitors were entered in classes, from 45cm to 1m.

The dressage phase was completed on Saturday and each class was hotly contested with only a small margin separating the top-three placings in most classes.

Sunday hosted the jumping phases, with the highly regarded Martin Hellier rebuilding and designing the cross country course along with the assistance of Barbara Cook that produced some lovely flowing double clear rounds.

The final placings were decided in the show-jumping phase, with riders having to negotiate the Stephen Squires-built course.

The King River Pony Club riders featured strongly in the final placings, with Kayla Wright on Kenwyn A Trick taking out the PC 95cm class.

Fellow local DVZ Flemming, ridden by Ester Harris, took out the overall 95cm class.

Esperance rider Jacqui Lloyd won the open 80cm while King River rider Julia Kershaw was the overall winner for the 65cm classes on her new ride, Rogue Park Ruby Tuesday.

Ellysha Hale, from the West Plantagenet Pony Club, was the overall winner of the 45cm and Albany Pony Club rider Isabella Day took out the 80cm.
