Teal Gough and Skye Parker scored to give Denmark a 2-0 victory over Rovers in the Great Southern Soccer Association senior women’s competition on August 8.

The win allowed them to leapfrog their opponents into second place in the ladder, but they still trail runaway leaders Albany Caledonian by a massive 20 points.

Calies kept up their perfect record with their 12th league win in a row, a 7-1 walloping of bottom side Sharks.

They have bagged 67 goals in this campaign so far, conceding only four, two of which have come against Sharks.

This time, it was Emily Lawrence who broke through the Calies’ defence, her goal coming in the 50th minute when her side were 5-0 down.

In an immediate response by the leaders, Jessica Baines scored for Calies a minute later, grabbing her second of the game.

Shelley Thompson and Kayla Stoney also scored twice with Holly Froehnelt the other markswoman.

Goals were hard to come by in the men’s senior league competition as the game involving Polonia and Rovers ended 0-0 while leaders Albany Caledonian could only beat bottom side Bayswater 1-0.

Bayswater have lost all their 11 league games but improved defensively against Calies after conceding 13 goals in each of their last two outings.

Joseph Love’s ninth-minute goal brought him to 13 for the season, level at the head of the top scorers’ list with Malcolm Van Burgel, of Phoenix, and Escher Nash, of Polonia.

There were no scoring problems in the men’s reserves’ fixture between the sides, Calies running out 7-1 winners, a Ben Harris hat-trick the main contribution.

As in their senior contest, the reserves’ match between Polonia and Rovers ended goalless.

Phoenix and Calies’ reserves shared a 10-goal thriller in the women’s competition.

Calies came back from 5-1 down with two goals apiece from Stoney and Libby Morris closing the gap.

Amaya Dobbe and Francine T’Hart, with two each, and one from Wendy Meijerink did the early damage for Phoenix.

Ellie Puls grabbed Calies’ other goal.

Denmark Rezzies were 3-0 winners over Rovers, thanks to a Jessica Kinder penalty plus strikes from Lowana Winter and Isabelle Gillett.

In the women’s development competition there were wins for Sharks and Polonia.

In the socials, Calies, Denmark Dream and Griffins enjoyed wins.

In the men’s socials there were victories for Denmark Fairy Wrens, Phoenix, Old Boys, Rovers, Crosskeys and Denmark Blue Wrens.
