Round two of the Great Southern Soccer Association season saw Polonia and Caledonians notch wins in the men’s league competition, and Phoenix and Polonia emerge victorious in the women’s league.

In the senior men’s league competition, Rovers had a rocky start to their game against Polonia on Saturday with an own goal the only score on the board in the first half.

However, Andreas Bouzinekis put them back in contention with a goal early in the second half to make the scores even at one goal all.

Defending champions Caledonians delivered a confident second win for the season with a 3-0 victory over Bayswater at Railways.

Douglas Grant booted the first goal for Caledonians, and Patrick Jones and Ryan Harper followed it up with another two in the second half as Bayswater failed to muster a reply.

It looked like Phoenix might have the guts to chase Caledonians down as Reagan Korthuis and Reuben Kroeze kicked a goal apiece and Jarrad Korthuis backed them up with a penalty goal to make the scores even at four goals all, but Caledonians’ saving grace came in the form of a late shot from Ben Harris, handing Caledonians the win 5-4.

In the second game, Charlie Corson booted an early goal for Polonia, and Roger Mejia kicked the reply right before the final whistle, leaving the teams in a draw one goal all.

In the senior women’s league competition, Polonia and Phoenix walked off winners, while Caledonians and Denmark finished in a draw.

Phoenix defeated Rovers 5-1, with Ebonee Van Burgel, Ruby Ryder, and Tasmyn Van Burgel all booting goals for the winners.

In the women’s reserves competition, Denmark Rezzies defeated Polonia 5-1 with a strong start in the first half setting them up for a win.
