Help police cut down on crime in region by registering CCTV camera locations

Great Southern police are calling on the public to register CCTV camera locations in a bid to prevent crime and create a safer community.

Cam-Map WA is a secure WA Police online database where businesses and individuals can voluntarily register the location of CCTV security cameras.

Registering cameras will give local police accurate information on CCTV camera locations to help investigate crimes and track down offenders.

Cam-Map WA is for public-facing cameras only.

This includes CCTV cameras monitoring public spaces such as a footpath, street, car park, shopfront, building foyer, park or beach.

CCTV cameras facing private spaces such as rooms, gardens or views into neighbouring properties are not eligible for registration.

“In the event of an incident, it can take days or hours to find out who has cameras,” Albany police officer-in-charge Sergeant Brendon Blades said.

“When people register we can inform the public quickly when things might happen in their area or street and they can check to see if they have footage that may assist us.”
