Jesse Daniel McLennan: Man accused of causing woman’s death in Bornholm crash indicates plea for drink-driving

An Albany man allegedly at the centre of a fatal Bornholm crash that claimed the life of a 34-year-old woman earlier this year has been slapped with two new charges of drink and drug-driving. Jesse Daniel McLennan appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday facing two new charges: one of driving with a blood alcohol content above 0.08g while having a prescribed illicit drug in his system and exceeding 0.08g per 100ml of blood. Defence lawyer Lisa Riley said her client intended to plead guilty to the drink-driving charge but was still in negotiations with police about the driving with prescribed illicit drug charge. The 27-year-old first appeared in court on May 1 accused of dangerous driving causing death. Mr McLennan was allegedly driving a silver Toyota LandCruiser on Lower Denmark Road in Bornholm, about 30km west of Albany, about 4.10am on April 10 when his vehicle collided with a woman’s white Toyota LandCruiser. Emergency services were called about 4.20am, but the 34-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene. Mr McLennan has not officially entered pleas to any of the three charges yet. He will next appear in the Albany Magistrates Court on June 19.
