Albany galloper Red Can Man finished sixth in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Jockey Billy Egan said the gelding, formerly trained by Steve Wolfe, produced a super run in soft conditions to finish 0.8 lengths off the winner Sansom.

Red Can Man jumped a $3.90 favourite in the race but was unable to score a second Victorian win since joining the Mornington stable of David Brideoake.

The four-year-old gelding settled just off the speed and let down well in the home straight but was swamped in the final 100m.

“He ran super, the wheels spun a little bit on the ground but it didn’t slow him down,” Egan said.

“He just virtually got a stitch the last 50m, he’s obviously a big horse and still taking improvement from each run.”

With a large Albany ownership, including Wolfe, Red Can Man is being set for the Group 1 $750,000 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 28.

Meanwhile Wolfe tasted success at Belmont Park last Saturday with promising type Mr Mt Walker.

Mr Mt Walkers dug deep in the concluding stages to reel in leader Obeeh and win by a short neck, making it two wins in his past three starts.
