A Supercar roared into town on Tuesday with driver Andre Heimgartner making a special appearance at the local R&J Batteries branch on Catalina Road.

Parked outside the premises, the car attracted quite a buzz with adults and children alike keen to see inside the bonnet and sit in the driver’s seat.

Chris Bojcun, the owner of the Albany store, said he hoped those who came to see the vehicle would cheer on Heimgartner when he takes to the track in Perth this weekend for the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 at Wanneroo Raceway.

“The day went really well and we’re very appreciative of Brad Jones Racing in bringing the car to Albany,” he said.

“The kids really enjoyed seeing it and hopefully a few of them now have someone to cheer for on race day.”

It was a 12-month process to bring car and driver to Albany, he said.

R&J Batteries has 30 stores nationwide and is a sponsor of Brad Jones Racing.

“Andre would do several activities because of that, and we were lucky to have him down here,” Mr Bojcun said.

The car came south in a huge truck – which was almost as much of a source of wonder as the car itself.

Heimgartner lies 14th in the standings with 1487 points and is hoping to make the most of racing his home track this time around.

Just short of locking down a spot in the inaugural finals series last year, he is hoping to make the top 10 this time.

The Auckland born racer now calls Perth home having started racing in 2014.

He’s had one race win this season in his 22 starts.
