Part of South Coast Highway between Green Range and Boxwood Hill was closed for nine hours on Tuesday after a loader rolled and blocked traffic.

The loader, which rolled near Wellstead, forced a closure of the thoroughfare between Borden Bremer Bay Road and Kojaneerup West Road from 9am.

Drivers were forced to use the detour via Kojaneerup West Road to Chillinup Road to Chester Pass to Borden Bremer Bay Road to South Coast Highway.

The 90km detour added an additional hour to the journey.

A Main Roads spokesperson said the rollover resulted in a diesel spill and minor damage to the road surface.

A crane was required to remove the loader from the highway, which was reopened by 6.10pm.

No one was injured in the incident.
