Southern Ports will hold an open day at the Port of Albany on April 27 for the first time since 2021, giving the community a chance to see maritime and port operations up close.

It will be the first open day held at the port since 2021, which more than 1000 people attended.

Southern Ports regional manager Albany Paul McSweeney said the open day was a great opportunity for the community to see how the port operates.

“This is a unique opportunity to see our operations, meet a range of our team and port users who are integral to the success of the Port of Albany and a chance to learn more about the maritime sector,” he said.

“We’re honoured that our local community is so invested in the Port, watching the vessels come and go from several lookouts across town, and now they’ll be able to see them up close.”

The open day will include port tours, live entertainment and family friendly activities such as a bouncy castle, a treasure hunt, face painting and a truck display.

Svitzer Australia general manager west Tully Barnes said their team was looking forward to showcasing the port’s two new tugs to the Albany community.

“As locals may have spotted already, we’ve welcomed two new tugs at the Port of Albany as part of our investment in maritime infrastructure across regional Australia,” he said.

“The Karoline and Maryon tugs have replaced the 30-year-old Koona and Karoo and offer enhanced towage as they are younger, stronger and more efficient.

“We’re looking forward to being part of the Port of Albany open day with a special tug display and offering the community a chance to win a ride on the tug.”
