Stephen Brown with Mary Maitland takes winter series after brass monkey race is abandoned in bad weather
The brass monkey race, and the sixth and final heat of the Princess Royal Sailing Club’s winter series was abandoned because of the severe weather conditions which included a temperature of 9C, heavy, non-stop rain and 33-knot winds.
After last Saturday’s abandonment, the winner was decided on a countback over the first five heats and Stephen Brown had a decisive victory over some fancy opponents.
Brown was the most consistent with Mary Maitland having had one win, two seconds, a third and a fifth place.
Chris Oldham put Joker into second place overall while Brett Hawker with Jessie James was third.
Skippers and crews now have their winter break before the 2025-26 sailing season opens in late October.
