WA Formula 500 Title heads to Albany with defending champ Rhys Cumming and red-hot Cody Turacchio fancied

Defending champion Rhys Cumming will headline a strong field for the 2025-26 WA Formula 500 Title to be held at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway over the Easter weekend. The event has not been held in Albany since 2005-06 and will be part of the Albany Speedway Club’s huge Easter Showdown meeting. The Late Model Easter Grand Prix will also be run over two huge nights of racing and super sedans will also be a feature division on the program. Cumming is among 22 nominations for the title weekend, out to retain the crown he won at the Perth Motorplex last season. Four-time champion Matt Brown will be one of the fancies for the title, returning to the venue he has already won a State championship. Brown has tasted feature race success twice so far this season while Cumming has a number of podium results this season and will enter the title full of confidence. Steven Ellement will venture to Albany in pursuit of a seventh victory in the title and is also the current Australia No. 5. Two other former champions in the field are Glenn Carstairs and Thomas Davies. Wandering’s Carstairs was successful in 2017 and 2021 and was a strong contender at this season’s national title. Narrogin’s Davies was the 2016 champion and hasn’t raced much this season but is vastly experienced. Arguably the favourite for the title, however is Cody Turacchio, the driver who has dominated the F500 ranks for the past couple of seasons. Turacchio is chasing the WA title that has eluded him so far, with three podium finishes to his name but not the coveted No. 1. Brendon Marshman and Todd Pages have been on the State title podium previously and are entered along with local hope Shane Devonshire. A small field of 10 drivers, including current national and State champion Kye Blight, have nominated for the Late Model Easter Grand Prix. Just six super sedans have entered so far for their two-night event. Junior sedans, production sedans, formula 125s and street stocks will also race across the weekend.
