Margaret River surfers fired up for Trigg State Junior Surf Titles
Capes junior surfers are heading to Trigg on Friday for the second round of the State Junior Surfing Titles after dominating the competition in local waters in March.
Brock Launders (Margaret River), Ruby Berry (Augusta), Sid Englert (Gracetown), Ace Flynn (Cowaramup) and Olive Hardy (Margaret River) head into round two as the top-seeded surfers after impressive round one showings, but they face no shortage of opposition from surfers travelling from all of the State’s key surf regions to compete.
After a challenging opening event in Margaret River, competitors aged from nine to 17 will have to adjust to beach break conditions with Trigg Beach through to Trigg Point providing multiple event locations.
Surfing WA high-performance coaches Ian Macpherson and Paul Lipscombe will be on site all weekend providing heat preparation, analysis and mentoring for WA’s new generation of surfing stars.
“It’s shaping up to be a big weekend of surfing,” Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said.
“After the first significant cold front passed through WA just days ago, we should have some new sand banks on offer along Trigg.
“I wish all our young surfers the best of luck.” Competition starts on Saturday morning, with finals set for Sunday.
Winners are gearing up for the Australian titles in Queensland later this year. Surfing WA will live-stream heat scores and results via www.surfingwalive.com.au.
