Heavily armed police make multiple arrests in Liverpool, southwestern Sydney

Heavily armed officers have stormed a busy intersection in Sydney’s southwest, dramatically detaining several men.

Camouflage-clad police carrying rifles were seen surrounding at least three men near George St and Campbell St in Liverpool.

Witnesses say police 4WDs smashed into the front of a white car during the traffic stop.

“A police operation is underway on George Street, Liverpool,” police said. “There is no ongoing risk to the community. Further information will be available later today.”

Authorities have confirmed the operation is ongoing but declined to provide further details.
