Sydney Airport: 40-year-old worker dies after being crushed by heavy machinery

A worker in his 40s has tragically died after being crushed by heavy machinery while working at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport in Mascot.

First responders, including a specialist medical team from NSW Ambulance, rushed to the scene around 10.30am but were unable to revive the man.

“Emergency services responded to reports that a freight handler at Sydney Airport had been struck by a vehicle at the freight handling terminal,” a police spokesperson said.

“Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police.”

Police say the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

Paramedics also attended to several witnesses, including the machinery operator, who were left visibly traumatised by the incident.
