Harrisdale assault: 14-year-old remains in stable condition after alleged bashing by Gypsy Joker Cody Higgins

A teenage boy who was allegedly savagely beaten with a metal baseball bat by a bikie member on Sunday remains in a stable condition in hospital. The 14-year-old’s injuries were so severe he received a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. The boy was with a group of friends on Sunday when police say one of them made the ill-fated decision to get inside a boat parked on a suburban street in Harrisdale. Allegedly the enraged bikie member Cody Alan Higgins, patched to the Gypsy Jokers, emerged from a nearby home and brutally attacked the 14-year-old with what police say was a metal baseball bat. The teenager was rushed to hospital as a result, where he remains in a stable condition. Gang Crime Squad detectives have charged Mr Higgins with grievous bodily harm and several drug-related offences. He’s also facing a prohibited weapon charge, which relates to a set of knuckle dusters. “It will be alleged the accused man assaulted a 14-year-old boy, causing serious injuries,” a police statement said. “The accused man is also a patched member of an outlaw motorcycle gang.” The gang member’s Facebook page has been targeted by members of the community, threatening the 26-year-old saying “you will get what’s coming” and labelling him “weak.” The Gypsy Joker gang member flaunts his patches online, with dozens of photos posted of him wearing club insignia with other gang members. As of late last year, the McGowan Government passed a new bill targeting gang members in the nation’s toughest anti-bikie laws to date, with one of the laws making it an offence to display any gang insignia in public — including tattoos — with the penalty being up to 12 months behind bars and up to $12,000 personal fines. Mr Higgins was remanded into custody when he faced court on Tuesday. He did not apply for bail and is next due to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on May 24. His lawyer Paul Holmes declined to comment on the case when contacted on Thursday night.
