Kimberley issued six bushfire advice warning in a week as El Questro fire continues to burn
A Bushfire Advice warning remains in place for El Questro Station and King River, Gibb River Road, Emma Gorge Waterfall and the Chamberlain River.
However, there is no longer a threat to lives of homes, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
It comes after guests were evacuated from the El Questro homestead on Monday with the resort set to remain closed until midweek.
It is one of six bushfire advice warnings in the Kimberley issued since August 13 with other advice in place for bushfires in Kalumburu, Dampier Peninsula, Ord River, Roebuck, Kununurra and Parry Creek Farm.
According to authorities, the fires in Ord River, Kalumburu, El Questro were not contained or under control while the fires in Kununurra and Parry Creek Farm were contained and under control.
Mirima National Park in Kununurra remains closed due to the fire.
None of the fires pose a threat to lives or homes but people living near the fires are urged to watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames and close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners.
A number of roads have been closed including El Questro Road and motorists are advised to avoid bushfire areas if possible, reduce speed and drive carefully.
Firefighters and other local authorities are fighting the fires.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services Acting Kimberley Superintendent Glenn Hall said the amount of bushfire activity was not uncommon for the Kimberley.
“In total, we’ve got 16 incidents active across the region… the fire season across the Kimberley is always, always active. It’s just to the degree of level of activity,” he said.
“If there’s any perceived need that we will need additional resources, then we’ll request them from our State Operations Center, and they’ll be mobilized accordingly.
He urged travellers and residents not to light any fires and to call triple zero if they spot one.
“Put your matches away. No naked flames in the Kimberley at the moment, no burning at all,” Mr Hall said.
“If you see a fire, it’s definitely a real incident, not a burn-off. Call triple zero.”
