WA Music Week brought an unforgettable night of live music to Broome’s Gimme Club, on Yawuru and Djugun country, at the weekend.

WAM West Kimberley Showcase lit up the stage with electric performances from some of the West Kimberley’s finest talent, including The Krui3ers, The Gray Brothers, Adele Oliver, Gugs Ranye, Lexy Anna, and Em and AJ.

Owen Whittle, CEO of WA Music said Broome continued its proud music heritage.

“The quality of music being produced in Broome is exceptional and continues its proud reputation of being a music destination and incubator for First Nations talent,” he said.

“Local music can too often be drowned out by algorithms and these showcases are vital to platform regional music and present the artists to their local communities.”

For local singer-songwriter Oliver, the night was about more than just music.

“WAM has made such a big effort to support regional areas, so it’s nice, as an artist, to feel supported and included. It’s amazing to celebrate with your neighbours from all over the Kimberley,” she said.

Director and founder of First Block Sounds, Ashlyn Jada Koh, highlighted the significance of the milestone.

“It’s the first time WAM festivals have showcased and put events on outside the Perth metro area, which is so exciting and important. Tonight, we have artists from across the Kimberley sharing original music with the local community — right here in Broome,” she said.

The event was presented by Goolarri Media, WAM, and First Block Sounds.
