Bunbury Catholic College has claimed the 2026 Senior High Schools Country Week champion school title after a strong all-round campaign across multiple sports, with Bunbury Senior High School finishing as runner-up in a dominant showing from the region.
The 2026 Country Week championships brought together more than 4000 students from around 60 schools across Western Australia, competing over five days in one of the State’s biggest school sport carnivals.
Schools took part across a wide range of divisions and sports, with results contributing to an overall champion school award that recognises consistent performance across the entire week rather than individual events.
Bunbury Catholic College produced one of its most complete weeks in recent memory, picking up wins across multiple sports.
The AFL A grade boys defeated Our Lady of Mercy 40-29, while the netball A grade girls secured a solid 38-30 win over Manea Senior College.
Their strength across court and field continued in volleyball, with tight and commanding wins over Christmas Island DHS 41-39 and Broome SHS 42-28.
The school also impressed in hockey, taking a 2-0 win over Great Southern Grammar, while their soccer A grade boys shared a 1–1 draw with Cape Naturaliste College.
Despite a few setbacks, including losses in basketball and AFL C grade, their overall consistency across multiple divisions helped set them apart.
Bunbury SHS also featured strongly, highlighted by an AFL girls win over SEDA 28-21.
They were competitive across the board, including a narrow 37-34 basketball loss to Geraldton Grammar and a 0-0 draw in soccer against Manea Senior College.
Their volleyball girls also faced a strong Busselton SHS side, going down 42-28 in a tough contest.
Elsewhere, Newton Moore SHS was among the standout individual performers of the week, dominating badminton with wins in both A and B grade.
Australind SHS had mixed results, highlighted by a strong cricket B grade win over Geraldton Grammar 108-70, while also falling narrowly in the U18 girls basketball grand final 34-32 and going down in netball E grade.
