Waste recycling company launches upgrade aiming to improve carbon emission and have less trucks on road

A waste recycling service provider across the South West has upgraded its Picton transfer station, expecting to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Cleanaway brings recyclable waste collected from Bunbury, Busselton and other South West towns to Picton where it is processed. About 17,000 tonnes of mixed recycling is processed through the facility each year. Regional operations manager Todd Dermody said the compaction equipment was upgraded to “a more efficient and capable model”. “This move was taken in hopes of reducing transport between Picton and our South Guildford material recovery facility, effectively reducing our carbon footprint,” he said. Mr Dermody said the upgrade would bring benefits such as “improved transport payloads, reduced transport ... and reduced loading times at the transfer station”. Carbon emissions are expected to be reduced by 104 tonnes per year. “No further upgrades impacting carbon footprint are planned for Picton at this time, however significant site upgrades are planned to improve mobile plant and personnel interaction controls,” Mr Dermody said.
