Fire fighters are battling a blaze in Perth’s east, with emergency services urging residents to leave now.

A bushfire emergency warning is in place for people in the Shire of Mundaring. Those in the area bounded by Great Eastern Highway, Coulston Road, Approach Road, Clayton Road, Victor Road, Beenong Road and Darlington Road in parts of Boya, Darlington, Greenmount, Helena Valley and Hovea are affected.

The bushfire is moving in a north easterly direction, with residents urged to act immediately in order to survive as “there is a threat to lives and homes”

According to DFES, the fire is not controlled or contained and residents should not “wait and see” as “leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger”.

“If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home. You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you,” the alert stated.

“If you are not at home, it is too dangerous to return.”

The Department of Communities has set up an evacuation centre at Brown Park Community Centre, on Salisbury Road in Swan View.

Those attending the centre have been asked to take any essential items such as medications or identification.
