Busselton Jetty team leader and marine biologist Chantell Field has been recognised as one of WA’s best tour guides at the Perth Airport WA Tourism Conference in Carnarvon.
Ms Field was named the FACET golden guide award winner for her work at the Busselton Jetty, with her knowledge in marine biology and her infectious and engaging personality standing out to the judges.

In her acceptance speech, Ms Field said she was beyond honoured and genuinely overwhelmed to have received the award.
“At the end of the day, I’m just a girl who loves the ocean and cares deeply about helping people better understand the marine world and why protecting it matters,” she said.
“If I can help someone leave feeling a little more connected to the ocean, even in a small way, then I feel like I’ve done something meaningful.”
Ms Field said her career in tour guiding has evolved from a lifelong fascination with marine ecosystems into a professional pathway that integrates science, storytelling and stewardship.
“I commenced my journey at the Busselton Jetty as a tour guide nearly three years ago, where I quickly discovered that exceptional guiding is not simply about delivering information, but about creating moments of connection between people and place,” she said.
“With a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and Environmental Management and Sustainability, I bring academic credibility and scientific accuracy to my interpretation.
“However, what truly defines my guiding practice is the ability to translate complex marine processes into accessible, engaging narratives that resonate with diverse and constantly evolving audiences.”
Overall the South West shone at the awards, with Walpole’s Gary Muir and Margaret River’s Nic Chirico all recognised with individual awards.
