A smoke warning has been issued for Busselton and Dunsborough as prescribed burning is carried out in the region today.

The prescribed burns have been carried out today by the Parks and Wildlife Service south east of Yallingup and Busselton.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has recommended locals shut doors and windows and turn off air conditioners.

Smoke may reduce visibility on the roads and motorists should take care and slow down when driving.

People with asthma and conditions exacerbated by smoke should also take precautions in line with their medical advice for these circumstances.

Prescribed burns create low-fuel areas in a mosaic of burnt and unburnt patches across the landscape, which help stem the spread of bushfires. It is the primary tool available to the department to manage fuel loads, which helps protect the community by minimising the impact of bushfires.
