Ryan Crowley: Former Fremantle Dockers player enters plea to allegations he attacked MAFS star Lauren Dunn

Former Fremantle Dockers player Ryan Crowley is set to go to trial, fighting a string of horror domestic violence accusations. The 42-year-old allegedly repeatedly attacked his ex-girlfriend Lauren Dunn, a former Married at First Sight contestant who now advocates for DV survivors, between 2019 and 2025 in Cottesloe, Claremont and West Leederville. A police prosecutor previously said one witness had described him assaulting her “to the point of almost killing her”. But when Crowley fronted Perth Magistrates Court in person on Friday, he pleaded not guilty to 13 charges against him. He had faced 16 charges but three, including two counts of deprivation of liberty, were dropped. A count of being armed or pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear was heard for the first time, with the magistrate saying it involved a large kitchen knife. The assaults allegedly included throttling and “using an aid to partially block her nose and mouth”, the magistrate said. Crowley had his bail renewed and had six of his most serious charges - including endangering the life, health or safety of a person - committed to the WA District Court on June 19 for a trial listing hearing. The remaining seven summary charges are next listed in Perth Magistrates Court for a trial allocation date on April 14. Crowley was first accused of unleashing a torrent of physical and verbal abuse at Ms Dunn in May last year. Among the allegations were him beating and choking her in a fit of jealousy that left her unconscious. He spent time in custody but was released on bail after his lawyer argued he had struggled to manage his diabetes while on remand. Crowley’s bail conditions include not contacting or approaching within 200m of Ms Dunn, and not contacting any witnesses. The court was previously told she had described their years-long relationship as “toxic” and “highly volatile”, and had fled to NSW.
