Ryan Richard Hawkins: Former top lawyer for construction giant BGC admits child sex crimes

A former lawyer for construction giant BGC, who has already admitted child sexual abuse and drug offences, has pleaded guilty from behind bars to a fresh swathe of abhorrent crimes. Ryan Richard Hawkins had pleaded guilty to accessing and distributing child exploitation material when he was hit with 17 fresh charges last month. And in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, the 41-year-old confessed to all of them, involving indecently recording and indecently dealing with a child. Hawkins will face the District Court of WA for a sentence mention on January 31. He had no prior record before August, when he was fined $400 for possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The court was told that while executing a search warrant on his car, detectives found meth in a clip-seal bag and a glass smoking implement wrapped in a blue towel and stashed in a spare tyre. They had swooped to arrest Hawkins for a string of child abuse material offences. Outside of his legal work, Hawkins had been involved in the North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club, was a former director of Little Athletics WA and was also a board member of the charity Miner’s Promise.
