Chaos as alleged drink driver smashes into sign in Bayswater and a motorist hits a car in Victoria Park
An alleged drink driver caused carnage when she ran into a portable display sign, flinging the trailer it was on into another car last night.
The 36-year-old woman, from Ashfield, allegedly drove her car over the median strip on Guildford Road about 8pm before crashing into the sign in Bayswater.
The impact pushed the sign’s safety trailer into westbound traffic, causing it to roll across the path of an oncoming vehicle.
While both drivers escaped serious injury, footage shows at least one of the cars was badly damaged.
The vehicle that one collided with the safety trailer was crushed at the front-end and its windshield smashed.
The left lane of Guildford Road was closed between Tonkin Highway and Katanning Street while authorities, including Main Roads and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, cleared the wreckage.
The 36-year-old woman was charged with careless driving and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
The crash came hours before another incident in Victoria Park outside a car yard on Albany Highway early this morning.
A white Ford Focus ploughed through a lamp post and a display car parked out the front of Caryard True Value Auto near Miller Street about 1.20am.
The impact knocked over the lamp and obliterated the front-end of the Focus.
Witnesses said the driver of the Focus ran away from the scene but two passengers remained.
The driver was found by police a short time later and taken to Kensington Police Station.
A 23-year-old man from Palmyra has been charged on summons and will appear in court at a later date.
