Detectives have charged a man with grievous bodily harm after a body was discovered inside a Geraldton home that was gutted by a suspicious fire.

Police say a 63-year-old was found dead inside the home on Aaron Close in the suburb of Karloo after the fire was brought under control on Monday morning.

A 39-year-old man from Thornlie have been charged with intent to do grievous bodily harm and will face Geraldton Magistrate’s Court this morning.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said residents made emergency calls believing there were people inside the property.

Police are yet to reveal the cause of the fire but was to speak with anyone who has dash-cam or mobile phone footage of the street around the time of the fire.
