An inmate has been charged after the body of another prisoner was found at Sydney's Silverwater jail earlier this week.

Corrections staff discovered the 63-year-old on the floor of his cell about 11.30am on Tuesday, police say.

Despite their efforts to revive him, he was declared dead by ambulance paramedics.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Local detectives from Auburn arrested a 29-year-old inmate at the Silverwater facility on Friday afternoon.
