A Victoria Police spokesman told AAP there was not likely to be any further updates on Wednesday.

A former classmate at Melton primary school was among those to post online tributes after learning of Mr Brown's death.

"You was (sic) such a sweet funny cheeky young boy who was loved by lots of us," they wrote.

"Being in (your) class was pretty great and amusing too! Rest in peace dude."

A woman wrote he would be "missed by so many and in so many ways", while another added they would "never be the same over this".

"I love you," she posted.

Anyone with information on his death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
