Police chase: Hamilton Hill man charged after allegedly stolen car crashes into parked vehicle in Cottesloe

A man who allegedly drove a stolen car on the wrong side of the road while leading police on a chase through Perth’s southern suburbs before crashing into a parked car on Saturday afternoon has been charged with reckless driving. Police will allege a 32-year-old Hamilton Hill man entered a residence on Graham Street in Spearwood about 12.20pm on Saturday and stole a white Toyota Landcruiser station sedan. Around 2.40pm, police activated emergency lights and sirens when the Landcruiser was located on Cockburn Road, near Rockingham Road. The driver allegedly failed to stop and accelerated away from police. Police will allege the man then drove recklessly through suburbs surrounding Hamilton Hill, Coogee and Claremont — travelling at excessive speeds, driving on the incorrect side of the road and running red lights. A short time later, the vehicle allegedly smashed into a parked vehicle on Station Street in Cottesloe, causing extensive damage. The driver fled on foot. Around 3.30pm, police officers caught the man with help from members of the public. During the arrest attempt, it will be alleged the man assaulted a police officer. The man has been charged with two counts of reckless driving to escape police pursuit, two counts of failing to comply, assaulting a police officer, failing to stop, having no authority to drive, aggravated home burglary and stealing a motor vehicle. He was scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates’ Court on Sunday.
