A Bassendean bottle shop customer was beaten with a pole after stepping in when a man threatened a worker.

The victim was hit several times and suffered serious head and leg injuries about 3.30pm yesterday at a shop on Railway Parade in Bassendean.

The accused man had been asked to leave the store by the staff member after throwing a sign when he approached the front entrance.

Detectives believe the incident could be linked to an assault around 5pm the same day, when a man was punched and robbed while sitting near the corner of Guildford Road and Wilson Road.

It is alleged the victim was approached by a man who punched him in the nose and stole his bike after a brief argument.

The alleged offender in both incidents is described as being aged about 40 and wearing dark pants, a blue jacket and no shoes.

Anyone who knows the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
