Ryan Anthony Jones, who allegedly caused two crashes during chase found with knives, catapult and axe in car

A 40-year-old man from Orelia has been arrested and charged following a dramatic yet short-lived police chase, which became only more bizarre after its crashing end.

Police allege Ryan Anthony Jones failed to stop about 8pm last night, when officers tried to intercept his Mitsubishi Lander on Charles Street in Perth.

Instead, as he approached Newcastle Street, Mr Jones allegedly accelerated and ran a red light before smashing into a taxi.

The impact then propelled the taxi into a parked car, and landed the taxi driver in Royal Perth Hospital with minor injuries.

Police allege Mr Jones then fled on foot into the bush. When he was eventually caught and arrested at Russell Square, police allegedly found a knife on him.

A search of his vehicle also uncovered several knives, an axe, a catapult, methamphetamine and cannabis.

Mr Jones has been charged with 14 offences including reckless driving, possess firearm/ammunition, failing to stop, endangering life and breach of bail.

He was remanded in custody this morning and is due back before the Perth Magistrates Court on October 23.
