A rescue operation is unfolding in WA’s Great Southern.

WA Police, St John WA and the SES are responding to the incident after reports a man, aged in his 70s, suffered a medical episode while climbing Castle Rock, in Porongurup, about 1.40pm on Monday.

The West Australian understands he was not hiking alone.

Castle Rock trail is about 4.7km long and takes up to three hours to hike.
