A fire raging in Darlington, Helena Valley, and Boya has been downgraded to a watch and act, with a possible threat to lives and homes.

People living in the area between Coulston Road, Kookaburra Place, Glen Road, Victor Road and Clayton Road were issued the updated warning at 4.46pm on Friday, after a leave now alert was withdrawn.

The blaze is not contained or controlled, but is stationary.

Clayton Road has been closed and firefights are actively fighting the blaze, with support from waterbombers.

People are instructed to leave in a northerly direction via Darlington Road if it is safe to do so.

It is too dangerous to return to the area if residents are not at home, according to Emergency WA.

An emergency evacuation centre has opened at Brown Park on Amherst Road in Swan View. If you are planning to head to the centre, it is advised to bring essential items such as medication and forms of identification.

Pets are not allowed, apart from assistance animals.

WHAT TO DO

  • If you have left the area, it is unsafe to return due to fallen trees, fallen powerlines and other dangers created by the fire.
  • If you have remained in the area, stay alert and monitor your surroundings as conditions could change.
  • If you are actively defending your property, continue to patrol and put out spot fires.
  • Keep doors and windows closed, and evaporative air conditioners turned off with water running through the system if possible.
  • Be patient and follow the directions of emergency services.

Bushfire advice alerts have been issued for the area bounded by Coulston Road, Darlington Road, Oakleigh Road and Nelson Road in Darlington, as well as by Coulston Road, Ridge Hill Road, Approach Road, Clayton Road and Marriot Road in Darlington, Boya, Gooseberry Hill, and Helena Valley.

Currently, there is no threat to lives and homes for people living in this area.
