Federal Government funding of $10 million for the Geraldton airport renewal and expansion is in doubt.

Sources today told The Geraldton Guardian the City of Greater Geraldton’s grant application for funding had been rejected.

Mayor Shane Van Styn said he would be in contact with the Federal Regional Development Minister, Senator Fiona Nash, and the Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price for confirmation.

“The airport renewal and extension is absolutely critical,” he said.

“It not only maintains current air services to Geraldton but will also provide foundations for strong growth in the tourism industry and the export and import markets.”
