A 15-year-old boy has been charged by police over the alleged heist of a local jewellery store on Marine Terrace in Geraldton last week.

Police say $8000 in cash was taken during the brazen burglary, which occurred overnight on Monday, March 15.

Geraldton Police Station operations manager Sgt Steve Beswick said the Geraldton inquiry team conducted “extensive inquiries” into the incident, charging the boy six days later on Saturday.

“It will be alleged a small security safe containing $8000 in cash was stolen,” he said. “Only the front door to the safe was recovered.”

The teenage boy is set to appear in the Geraldton Children’s Court on April 6.
